Access Copyright Interim Post-Secondary Educational Institution Tariff, 2011-2013 (April 7, 2011)

Copyright protected content is used in post-secondary institutions across Canada. Professors, students and administrators all rely on being able to quickly and easily reproduce copyright protected content.

Obtaining permission to copy from the copyright holder each and every time would quickly become time consuming and impractical. The Access Copyright Interim Post-Secondary Educational Institutions Tariff, 2011-2013 eliminates this worry. The Interim Tariff provides pre-authorized clearance to use millions of works to create customized paper coursepack material, make day-to-day paper copies, prepare handouts for class and place material on reserve in the library for students to photocopy, and provides an option to use content digitally.

The Interim Tariff is a simple and cost-effective way to use copyright protected materials.

The Interim Tariff has three main components: The first component provides advance permission for day-to-day paper copying by instructors, students and administrators; the second covers the production of paper coursepacks; and the third component gives institutions the option to make digital copies.

The Interim Tariff provides clarification to all post-secondary educational institutions about what they can copy.

The Interim Tariff will be replaced by a certified tariff once it is certified by the Copyright Board of Canada. If the Copyright Board orders that a retroactive adjustment is appropriate, that retroactive adjustment will also apply to any payments made under the Interim Tariff.
